Guzheng Lessons
What is a Guzheng?
The guzheng, Chinese zither, is an ancient Chinese stringed instrument that is plucked and strummed to create music. Today’s guzheng instruments have 21-26 strings with movable bridges and are tuned to the pentatonic scale. Cousin instruments to the guzheng include the Vietnamese Đàn Tranh, Japanese Koto, and Korean Gayageum.
About the Guzheng Program
As a life-long learner, I believe every day, one has the opportunity to learn something new about the world around them and/or the opportunity to learn something new about themselves. With my guzheng program, I want to foster the spirit of learning within each student and provide them opportunities to be immersed in Chinese culture through music. Music is a universal language! It provides individuals an opportunity to express themselves and share stories.
Music Lessons
Both private and group lessons are available for learning guzheng!
With private lessons, each lesson is curated and tailored for the specific individual learning the instrument. The 1:1 attention allows for accelerated learning, greater focus on improving finger techniques, and enhanced mastery of the musical pieces learned.
With group lessons, individuals have the opportunity to learn alongside other students. These lessons provide a unique environment to learn various parts of musical arrangement and allow for more frequent collaboration with others as well as greater musical experimentation.
No prior musical background is necessary when starting private or group lessons and no matter where you are in your musical journey, all are welcome to come explore!
Performances in the Boston and Greater Boston Region
Alongside lessons, there will be opportunities for students to showcase their talents performing in Boston and Greater Boston! From student recitals to cultural festivals and giving back to the community, students will grow in their performance acumen with confidence, poise, and professionalism. Additionally, students will be able to exercise leadership skills while performing as a group and foster teamwork and community with fellow musicians.
Collaborations
It’s a joy to be a part of a music community. Learning the guzheng does not just stop with exposure to one instrument! Being a part of the guzheng program will also allow students opportunities for cross cultural collaboration with other musicians of western and eastern influence where beauty will be created through education and cultural learning!
